I will flat out admit that I am one of those unfortunate pet owners whose dog thinks that just because he has twice the number of feet and legs that I do means he needs to travel twice as far and as fast as I can every time we go out for his daily walk. This usually means I am behind him gasping for breath as he romps merrily along chasing anything he sees and getting impatient with me when I stop to catch my breath.
Fortunately, I truly enjoy having him around, even when he decides it is time I need some new shoes. That’s right, he decides. He also demonstrates his decision in no uncertain terms, usually by grabbing one of my favorite shoes and chewing on it to sharpen his teeth. It’s become such a ritual now that I just take it as his way of saying it’s now time that I use my Groupon promo code to order a new pair of shoes from The Walking Company. Fortunately, they usually have some excellent deals (a 50% off sale right now) and a wide selection of styles and sizes. So I take advantage of his hint to contact them and order a couple of new pairs of shoes. I always get a “backup pair” in case he confuses my new shoes with the old ones he’s adopted as his latest toys.
Of course, I rarely, if ever take him out for walks while wearing my new shoes; although they are extremely comfortable I prefer to save them for walking with my more attractive two-legged companions. Instead, when we go on walks I usually wear a comfortable pair of boots or loafers that are just perfect for trying to keep up with that dog. And they too come from The Walking Company, because they make some of the best outdoor shoes you can find. They sometimes make me think I might be able to keep up with that dog when he takes off on his sprints. At least my feet usually feel much better than my legs and lungs after racing through the park with him on his regular capers.
